Let's talk about the Behlster Way of Living and let us tell you about our beach life. But first...
Picture this: You’ve been invited to a party where you don’t know anyone. No big deal, right? But what happens if you come through the door and nobody pays attention to you, or even worse, everybody pays attention to you because your outfit doesn’t fit into the party's dress code? Still no problem? You don’t care? Well, maybe you grab a drink or two, look around for a bit and watch the crowd, but soon after you’ll most likely be standing there feeling like a fish out of water. Now you can either grab another drink, pretend to have fun and tough it out (after a couple more drinks you’ll have fun by yourself anyway) or slowly start sliding towards the door in order to escape. This scenario doesn’t sound like a lot of fun, does it?
Here’s another example: You go to the same party. But this time the host tells you in advance what to wear best, spots you beaming from the doorstep while entering the party, guides you into the room, hands you a drink, shows you around, and politely introduces you to the other guests, who admire your stunning outfit. That scenario sounds a lot better, doesn't it?
It doesn’t matter if it’s a party, a vacation, a business interview, a date, a networking event or maybe, like it was for us, moving to a new city - It’s all about the introduction. It’s about that first impression. Who doesn't want to feel welcome, at home and a tiny bit special from the first moment on? Allow us to be your host and we’ll take care of the rest, because we’re here to introduce you to the sunny side of life and the beach life all its unique beauty.

So, you guys want to hear the long or the extra long version? I mean I’m 30, there is quite a story to tell… Or at least, everybody should have a great story to tell at by this age. But no worries, here are the details in short: I’m an Austrian journalist living and working in beautiful Southern California. I’ve been writing for more than ten years for European publishing houses and magazines, and usually feature topics like fashion, health, lifestyle, and, believe it or not, automobiles. Not a typical theme for a girl, but hey, it’s San Diego, baby, and this fantastic city is packed with beautiful people and cars in equal amounts. Now, how can I cover so many different topics? Why not focus on a specific one and become an expert for that? Well… What exactly qualifies an expert? Maybe if you went to school for a long time… In all reality, I worked hard to earn three Masters degrees, but does that make man an expert? No, not really. Perhaps it’s the experience that makes someone become a pro in something. At 24 is was given the chance to lead the marketing department of Europe's biggest printing company for five years and worked with publishing housed all over the world, but is that enough? I don’t think so either. All the education and experience wouldn’t mean a thing without passion. And that’s what makes Josh and I the perfect team: we’re truly passionate about a lot of things. We could talk about cars for hours and hours, I can’t walk past a fantastically dressed woman without telling her how great she looks and at the same time Josh wouldn't hesitate starting a conversation with a sharp dressed guy to find out where he gets his clothes tailored. We work out at least five times a week and love the feeling it gives us, but we also enjoy great food to the fullest, and celebrate happy hour with a smile on the face. We’ve seen a lot of the world, and I mean A LOT… but no place is like home and even though I’m very proud of my roots and love Austria from the bottom of my heart, I chose San Diego as my new home and I couldn't be any happier with this decision. Do you know the saying “Home is where your heart is.”? If you lost your heart to the right person, home can be everywhere… but it’s just so much better at the beach. Everything is better at the beach.
31 years young. Midwesterner. Ocean-obsessed since first seen on TV. Dreamer. Growing up in Middle America meant that the closest beach was either on Miami Vice or Baywatch, depending on the time of day. Being born into a working middle-class family with too much month at the end of the money meant that tropical family vacations were only booked in Imaginationville along with a few BMWs, Ferraris, Lamborghinis and some other crazy dreams, but regardless of a lacking of funds the passion for paradise and beach life would only become stronger year after year. By the time I was 18, I saved every penny from my summer job of my senior year of high school to book a trip to Cancun, Mexico, to get my ultimate beach-fix before heading off to college. Little did I know how pivotal that trip would be for my future. After a week in what I could only describe as a dream paradise, I unpacked my bags, shook out the powdery sand, and threw on the collegiate cuffs to tote myself back to the books like everyone else. Okay, so maybe I’m being a little too harsh. School wasn’t exactly prison. School was in many ways easy for me. Some said it was because I was “gifted”. My biggest problem, however, was that I wasn’t passionate about it at all and I saw too many friends with degrees getting passed up for great jobs in a struggling economy due to other applicants that had more “experience” than they did. After seeing this unfold time after time, I took a good hard look around and decided to up and leave my academic scholarship after achieving an Associates of Business Degree to hit the workforce and either sink or swim in this crazy ‘pool’ called life. I mean Lincoln, Franklin, Carnegie, Ford, Jobs, Gates, all these guys we were learning about in school made their success, wealth, and contributions without a big fancy formal degree… so why couldn’t I? After all, school wasn’t getting me back to the beach anytime soon! Flash forward just three years after making this life-changing decision and working several sales jobs within a variety of different companies, and I landed myself an opportunity to train, test, and work for one of the largest national lenders in America. At the ripe age of only 23 years old I was officially swimming with the biggest financial ‘sharks’ and making more money than I ever thought possible. My first commission check secured a trip to Puerto Rico! As you can tell, I was hooked. Within a year I had hit five U.S. beaches, two private islands, saved enough to buy my first brand new BMW, motorcycle, and tons of lavish home comfort and entertainment equipment. Living the dream, right? Well… not exactly. They called it the Market Meltdown, the Bursting of the Housing Bubble, the Financial Recession. Within a year’s time, my six-figure income had plummeted by 75% and then one December morning I came into the office only to hear that our company had filed Chapter 11 Bankruptcy and that I was officially out of a job. I was devastated. From 2007-2010 I simplified and prioritized lot of things, planned smarter, and looked for new ways to increase my business and improve the lifestyle of my customers. I stopped asking what they wanted and started asking why they wanted it. To my surprise I found a common ground with each and every one of them. Everyone simply wanted to have a better quality of life, to enjoy more things, relax more comfortably, and to provide more to their families. Whether it was a ski trip to the mountains, a fishing trip up North, a European adventure, or a tropical island escape, everyone had a dream and they all wanted to experience what each referred to as “the good life”. I knew this desire all too well and I wanted to help. It was at this moment myself and a very good friend decided to use our knowledge and open our own consulting company to help those struggling, to better understand the how and why they were in the position they were in. At the age of 26, I was not only working a full-time job in a career I loved, but I was now officially a business owner. From 2010 to 2013 I simultaneously climbed the corporate ladder to an amazing managerial position within my career, increased my book of business by ten-fold, grew my company to four times its worth and four times its client base, and bought my first home. Hard work and dedication paid off. I took more vacations, listened to more of my customers desires, implemented new products, and decided it too was my time to make the move I’ve wanted my entire life. I was ready to move to the beach! After getting approval from my company to expand, selling all my possessions, loading my car down to the brim, and convincing one of my best friends to join me on a 30-hour cross-country drive, I was on my way to live the life I wanted forever. California, here I come! Now, it’s been two years, and I’m here in SoCal’s sunny San Diego paradise where I met the most amazing woman in the universe, living “the good life”, sharing our story and letting you know that nothing is impossible and everything is awesome on the oceanside of life.
So… now you know our story and that we’ve seen a lot, done even more… When we moved to California, we had no idea what the response from family, friends and even acquaintances might be, but shortly after the move they started to ask for tips and recommendations or wanted to come visit and enjoy our lifestyle for a moment. At The Behlster Way we want to share our passion for the salty breeze, the daily sunshine and the sound of the waves with beach lovers like you tell you about this oceanside of living.
